Don’t let the title deceive you. I promise it was an accident , now let me explain …
On Sunday night, November 6, 2016, I went out to a small concert held at a bar/restaurant type venue accompanied by a couple of friends and a parent. Before continuing with this story I’d just like to mention that we were invited. Okay now back to the story. Upon arrival at the venue, known as 3 Thirty 3, we noticed that almost everyone we saw there was white an immediately we felt like we didn’t fit in. As we waited in line to get inside we began to notice something else.
Yoanca Reyes, another attendant, explained that once we were in the line waiting to get in she could see and feel all those around us giving us “side eye.” Shortly after that, we saw a young boy wearing a Make America Great Again cap. Although slightly offended, we didn't think much of it because it was just one boy. However, while my mind was drifting off into who knows what, my friends noticed more. Reyes claims that she began noticing “people dressed in red.” That's the moment she began to feel uncomfortable, and although I hadn’t noticed what she did I could feel it too.
When we finally were let into the venue, I was stunned by what I had just walked into. That’s right, it was a TRUMP PARTY! My friends and I silently walked in and we looked at each other as if we never learned how to speak. As soon as I was able to grasp what I was witnessing right in front of me I let out probably one of the biggest OMG’s ever. I felt as if I had walked into my biggest nightmare. I was surrounded by people who praise the man who openly discriminates my nationality.
My friends and I were all frightened but at the same time we were filled with rage. I, for one, was hoping that the Trump supporters didn’t think that I was one of the Latino's who also support Trump. I had a feeling that my friends felt the same, because any and every time they cheered for Trump we would yell “Boo!”, because we did not want to be silent the whole time we were there. As the concert went along I became more and more annoyed because of the things I noticed. Since I was too distracted by my surroundings I would look around instead of paying attention to the show and I would catch so many people staring at us. Not only that but there was a certain lady who constantly would walk right in front of us waving a Trump poster practically in our faces. I felt like I could’ve lost it but the worst was when some lady forced my friends and I to dance with her. By that time I was done. After that I simply kept my mind on the music and tried my best to avoid everything around me.
I was shocked by everything that had happened that night, but it will for sure be one I will never forget. Never in a million years would I have thought that I’d end up at a party for someone like Donald Trump, but hey, life can make some crazy and unexpected things happen. On the bright side, I survived.
